AJAR’s approach to human rights integrates an awareness of how unchecked exploitation of natural resources affects human survival. AJAR contributes to climate justice by siding with communities that suffer disproportionately from the impact of climate change, and engages in actions that seek urgent solutions capable of protecting homes and environments as part of an integrated strategy to strengthen the foundation of basic human rights.

All the Birds are Gone
This initiative reflects efforts for greater justice in Papua by connecting how Papuan women experience land conflict, while playing a leading role protecting and nurturing their natural resources. It demonstrated clearly that Papua is not “empty land”, and the research highlights the urgency to listen to the voices of indigenous women as they demand their rights be recognized – rights to traditional land ownership and livelihoods, to food security, to be consulted and compensated for land use, to participate in indigenous institutions, to have equal access to government health and education services, to have a political voice, to be protected from violence, and to live with dignity.
